Poem | Bury Me In Red

Bury Me In Red - A Poem by Jennifer Gubrandsen

I can't let go - You can't give it up.

So I'll just hold space for it instead.

It lives with me - and will forever.

My heart continues to rule my head.

Do you deserve every breath - no you never have.

Yet the devotion will linger until I'm dead.

It will breathe in the silence - jailed forever.

And I'll never again allow your ego to be fed.

You'll rage - the victim forever played.

Nothing matters regardless of what's done or said.

You built my prison - a sentence of forever.

The difference now; I don't go wherever I'm led.

Nothing cuts the cord - not even the sharpest tool.

This vow should've been the one when we wed.

Shall I scream at my destiny or fate forever?

When it finally takes me; bury me in red.
